The Early Years
Listening to my mother’s fascinating stories—as a nursing supervisor in the local hospital—motivated me to become a nurse. But not long after starting my career, I desired to do more and spent evenings and weekends earning my BScN and MBA. This combination of degrees, opened doors and allowed me to move into higher nursing positions.
While working as the manager at a Toronto Pain Clinic, as part of my additional training, I counselled some clients after-hours. Seeing my client’s incredible progress and life-changing results, motivated me to go back to school to learn more.
First I obtained a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and then a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I’ve been a registered psychologist since 2008, working in hospitals, nursing homes, counselling centres and private settings.
Along with Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I’ve also found Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to be useful for a variety of mental health issues.
